A gathering of winners

It was an afternoon of celebrations. Close to 80 Singapore-based winners of the ExxonMobil Chemical Responsible Care Awards and the Global Manufacturing Awards received their awards during a special ceremony and lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel on May 23.

Asia Pacific (AP) Manufacturing Director Jeff Davis presented the awards and the entire Singapore Chemical Plant (SCP) Management Committee was present at the event.

For Responsible Care, Singapore won eight of the 14 awards that went to individuals and teams in AP. "This is an excellent performance and testimony to our commitments to safety, health and the environment," Jeff said.

"However, we cannot rest on our laurels. Safety will be a major challenge for us for the next few years. We have massive construction works going on for our project and base plant revamp works. Manpower will increase steadily to a peak of 15,000 at site. Therefore, we must be mindful about safety and continue to work towards Nobody Gets Hurt."

On the Global Manufacturing Awards programme, Jeff said: "This is the highest level of recognition given by Global Manufacturing. This year's selection process was especially challenging as  the nominations included over 500 people, in 36 teams, from across the globe."

AP had five winning teams out of 20 Responsible Care Awards winners worldwide. Three of the AP winners had members based in Singapore.
