Strong support for blood drive

Blood drive volunteers

This year’s ExxonMobil public blood donation drive was a tremendous success, with 1,471 people registering to donate their blood and 1,175 successfully doing so.

This year, for the first time, the blood drive was held over seven days instead of six. These stretch over a nine-day period from October 3 to 11, with a two-day break.

While public blood donation drives were mostly held at shopping malls in previous years, this year’s events were all held at train stations along the North East Line operated by Comfort Delgro, namely Dhoby Ghaut, HarbourFront and Hougang
stations.

ExxonMobil staff members also had the opportunity to donate blood at the two Singapore Refinery sites, Singapore Chemical Plant and the HarbourFront offices.

Singapore Lead Country Manager Kwa Chong Seng was extremely pleased with the outcome. At the blood donation drive in HarbourFront, he told the group of organisers: “I have one comment. Well done!”

ExxonMobil has been holding the annual blood donation drive since 2003. On April 18 this year, however, an ad hoc blood donation drive was held among employees and contractors, in response to an urgent request from Singapore Red Cross, as blood stocks had fallen to a critical level. Singapore uses around 350 bags of blood each day.
