Update on flaring at ExxonMobil's Singapore Chemical Plant

SINGAPORE, 23 November, 2006 – Flaring at ExxonMobil's Singapore Chemical Plant is continuing, but the flare is substantially reduced. We continue to work on restarting the process units safely.

We are sorry that this has caused concern among the Singapore public. We would like to once again assure that there is no risk to the public.

Flaring is a safety device to safely dispose excess hydrocarbons that cannot be processed from our chemical plant. It occurs during unplanned operational interruptions, such as this one which we are experiencing, and scheduled maintenance activities.
