ExxonMobil encourages all motorists to use petrol and diesel efficiently and prudently at all times. These 10 energy-saving techniques help you save on fuel.

1. Drive safely and courteously and you'll save fuel.
2. Watch your speed - a journey at 80km/hr uses 30 per cent less fuel than one at 110km/hr.
3. Plan your trips for the day and you will save fuel.
4. Turn off the engine if you are stationary for two minutes or more.
5. Look out for opportunities to car pool.
6. Braking or accelerating sharply can be dangerous and is bad for fuel consumption.
7. Inflate your tyres to the right pressure - this can save up to 5 percent on your fuel bill.
8. Remove unnecessary loads from your car - they make you use more fuel.
9. Having a vehicle regularly serviced brings many benefits when checks cover areas such as idling speed, ignition timing, thermostat and the fuel system.
10. When you change your vehicle, consider fuel consumption as an important feature.
