safety, health and environment: absolute top priority

For decades now, ExxonMobil has worked to ensure company employees and contractors perform their work safely, to improve their standard of health and to protect the environment.
Impressive results have been achieved over the years. Lost time injuries - these are accidents that result in the person being absent from work for more than 24 hours - involving company employees or contractors are currently almost non-existent in the Benelux.
To determine the safety level at ExxonMobil we currently measure the number of accidents, including minor injuries, per 200,000 man-hours. This figure has been fluctuating between zero and one for years. Some company units have even been able to show an accident frequency of zero, which is the goal of ExxonMobil as a whole. No accident is inevitable. Risks can always be controlled or eliminated whatever the conditions.
ExxonMobil companies throughout the world hold regular exercises to ensure they are prepared for any emergency.
Health policy at ExxonMobil focuses primarily on the prevention of occupational illness. Specialized personnel, such as doctors, occupational hygienists and nurses, work together to control or eliminate health risks. Special measuring equipment is used to perform regular checks on the risk of employees being exposed to hazardous substances during their work. As soon as any risk is detected, measures are implemented. In addition, every employee is called up periodically for a medical examination that focuses primarily on health issues related to their specific tasks and responsibilities.
Finally, environmental care should be a matter of course for companies that process oil products and produce and sell chemicals. ExxonMobil is as economic as possible with energy and limits the emissions of potentially hazardous substances to a minimum. Even during the design stage of plants account is taken of environmental requirements. The refineries and chemical plants have advanced waste water treatment systems and waste flows are dealt with in compliance with legal requirements and frequently in compliance with even stricter company standards.
