ExxonMobil executive receives national honours for outstanding contributions to Singapore

Mr. Dolan was instrumental in investment decisions that have significantly expanded ExxonMobil’s Singapore footprint over the past decade, most notably the addition of a multi-billion-dollar steam cracker to the company’s chemical plant on Jurong Island. This complex is the only plant in the world that can convert crude oil directly into petrochemicals. Mr. Dolan also oversaw other key investments including the Singapore Butyl and Adhesion project, which will produce halobutyl rubber and resins for adhesive purposes. Such investments have created exciting jobs for Singaporeans, and ExxonMobil currently employs around 3,300 staff in Singapore.

Mr. Dolan was also a strong champion in supporting ExxonMobil’s long-term sustainability in Singapore. He supported numerous refinery upgrading projects in order to increase productivity and energy efficiency, as well as to support Singapore’s efforts to be a clean and green nation. These include a diesel hydrotreater, an expansion of the lubricants base stock plant, and a cogeneration unit. These efforts also improved the competitiveness of ExxonMobil’s investments in Singapore.

Dr. Beh Swan Gin, Chairman of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), congratulated Mr. Dolan on being conferred this prestigious award for his contributions to the nation. “I extend my heartiest congratulations to Mr. Dolan on receiving the award. With Mr. Dolan’s support, Singapore continues to play an important role in ExxonMobil’s operations in Asia. Mr. Dolan’s confidence in Singapore has also strengthened the strong relationship we have with ExxonMobil. Mr. Michael Dolan has made significant contributions to the growth and development of Singapore’s energy and chemicals industry

Mr. Dolan played an instrumental role in investment decisions that led to a significant expansion of ExxonMobil’s operations and business in Singapore over the past decade. These included the addition of a multi-billion-dollar steam cracker to the company’s chemical plant on Jurong Island. This second cracker utilizes ExxonMobil’s proprietary technology and is the only one in the world that can convert crude oil directly into petrochemicals. This pioneering project was followed by other key investments such as the Singapore Butyl and Adhesives project which will produce halobutyl rubber and resins for adhesives. As a result of these projects, Singapore is now home to ExxonMobil’s largest petrochemical complex in the world.

Mr. Dolan was also a strong champion in supporting numerous projects to upgrade ExxonMobil’s refinery operations in Singapore. They included a diesel hydrotreater, an expansion of the lubricants base stock plant, and a cogeneration unit. Besides improving the refinery’s competitiveness, the cogeneration project is also in line with Singapore’s efforts to be a clean and green nation by improving the industry’s energy efficiency.

Beyond investments, Mr. Dolan contributed to Singapore as a member of the International Advisory Panel on Energy, chaired by the Minister for Trade and Industry (Industry) S Iswaran, from 2008 to 2014. Comprising international energy experts, the panel emphasised the need for innovative policy initiatives and technology development to ensure that Singapore is able to meet its growing energy needs and be ready to seize new opportunities in the energy sector.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Singapore, the President of the Republic of Singapore is pleased to confer the Public Service Medal (Friends of Singapore) 2016 on Mr. Michael Dolan
